From Ocean Waste to Skincare Innovation: How Georgia Jellyfish Sparked a Breakthrough

Written by JellyCoUSA LLC

What started as a university research project led by Kevin E. Mis Solval and Peter G. Chiarelli to help revive Georgia’s struggling seafood industry led us somewhere none of us expected.

Jellyfish are abundant, overlooked, and often left to wash ashore with no commercial use at all. The original idea was food, but the market wasn’t exactly lining up for jellyfish on the dinner plate. Skincare, though… That changed everything.

As we began exploring jellyfish collagen, something became immediately clear: this material behaved differently. Our formulator confirmed it when he said,

I’ve worked with a lot of collagens and developed over 1000 formulas… nothing feels like this.”

The texture, the water‑binding ability, the way it glided on the skin. It was unmistakably unique.

So we pivoted.

We developed a minimally processed method to preserve the natural qualities of jellyfish collagen peptides, what we now call SimplySEA™. And that became the foundation of JellyCoUSA’s first product: a clean, lightweight moisturizer powered by a marine ingredient most people have never experienced.

This marks the beginning of 100% U.S.-sourced jellyfish collagen skincare. A new category. A new supply chain for coastal communities. A new way to think about hydration.

After all… Jellyfish Don’t Wrinkle, So Why Should You?

If you’re curious what this innovation feels like on your skin, now’s the time to find out.
